The National Science Foundation

The National Science Foundation has supported all our research on the brain of the Florida Manatee. NSF support allowed us to collect, perfuse, embed, section and stain sections of the brains of ten different manatees. NSF has given major support to establishing and safeguarding the Comparative Mammalian Brain Collections housed at the University of Wisconsin and Michigan State University by supporting the transfer of all the brain collection material to the National Museum of Health and Medicine (NMHM). NMHM will thereby become a National Brain Resource to be used by researchers, educators and students now and into the future.
